Philosophy To create something that does not exist is the most fulfilling experience I know. My desires, dreams, fears, humor- coming together all at once. I am deeply obsessed with the bizarre predicament we find ourselves in as human beings. We are minds and we are bodies, we are beautiful and we are ugly, we are reason and we are passion. I want to embrace this irony- that we are forever in flux. I hope to shine a light onto the rascality of our nature. I want to explore this truth with compassion and a sense of humor. It seems to me the best way to play this game is not as something serious, but unapologetically sincere. The Work I am a Canadian born professional illustrator and painter currently located in Ellsworth, Maine. I am an artist very committed to the professionalism of my work, and am constantly seeking to better expand my abilities and knowledge. As well as in illustration and fine art, I also spend a great deal of time as a character designer and concept artist (with some experience in graphic-design, surface design, and 2D animation). Outside of my creative endeavors, I enjoy learning everything I can about science and philosophy. I love tackling strange and complicated issues. I feel a great sense of satisfaction while learning, and strongly believe that seeking out knowledge is the best thing I can do to better myself and those around me. To be intellectually stimulated and in dialogue with other curious minds fuels much of my creativity. My personal taste and style tends to be that of childish exuberance, exaggerated forms, vibrant colors, and an embrace of the absurd. Despite that, my designs, illustrations, paintings, characters, etc. have a wide breadth of attitude. I strive to create work that is cohesive but flexible. I enjoy the freedom of making something grotesque and dark, and soon after making something innocent and beautiful. |
